Women's Mass start at the 2009 Gin Gin 200
FINAL UPDATE/AWARDS - 1/3/10: The Gin Gin 200 purse totaled $8100 and paid the top 3 in each division. Additional awards were; Humanitarian Award: Mike Ellis; Most improved second run time: Terry Williams; Perseverance: Kelley Griffin; Temperatures ranged from -8 at the start, to – 25 at the halfway point. There was considerable over-flow on the first leg of the race. The trail was clean and fast for the return run.

| UPDATE 12/30 14:35:: 3 mushers remain on the trail. They are moving slow but progressing. Areas of deep overflow, in some places up to the mushers knees has caused some difficulty. Wet gear and below zero temperatures don't mix. The mushers have had to stop & dry out & rest their teams. Race officials are keeping a close eye on the remaining teams and will offer assistance if needed. |

UPDATE 12/30/09 8:45 AM: We do have a confirm 1st into Wolverine in the Women's division - Michelle Phillips & 1st in the Men's division - Lance Mackey. More updates in about 15 minutes!

UPADTE 12/30/09 7 AM: There are finishers at Wolverene---at least 6. But no word on who. Caleb Hathaway, Kathy Fredricks and Greg Stoddard are scratches. Zoya DeNure withdrew for medical reasons. We will get you more info when we can.The last team; Williams, was out of Maclaren at 6:10 tuesday evening.

UPDATE 12/30/09 2 AM: Minus 12 now and still dropping. All musher with 10 dogs on the line-except Braxton Peterson, he will be dropping 1.

UPDATE 12/29/09 - 12:30 AM: Foggy all the way until the last 20 miles into Macaren River Lodge. Temp. at Maclaren is -7 and calm. Trail has some overflow here and there. Zoya DeNure had one dog in the basket---other teams have 10 on the line.

| UPDATE 12/28/09 2PM: Mushers have taken off from Wolverine Lodge with a beautiful mass start. Mushers must carry all necessary food and gear in their sled the entire race which may slow things down. Maximum10 dog teams. Trails are groomed and in good condition but reported soft on the Lake Louise end. Mushers expected into Maclaren around midnight! Weather reports at the start: 9 degress above zero with fog, Maclaren Lodge reporting 25 above and clear. temperatures are expected to drop to below zero this evening, winds calm and fog along the river. |

2008 WAS A TASTE OF TOUGH!
All mushers have finished the 2008 Gin Gin 200. Bitter
cold temperatures of 40 below and colder as well as
winds to 40 mph gave everyone a taste of tough! As
tbe race marshal, I'd like to thank every musher and
volunteer for pulling together to make this a great
race and for keeping me smiling! More
